Sex Pistols in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?

... believe it, it's true, they're being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

In spite of their rejection of the Hall of Fame's invitation to attend the induction, and the legacy of rock and roll rebellion that was inspired by their one and only studio album, Never Mind The Bollocks, Here's The Sex Pistols, they're really being inducted.

Talk about long-overdue respect and vindication!

The raw energy they inspired helped fuel the then-fledgling London punk scene into what eventually became a strong new source of inspiration for the revival of the lagging rock scene of the time. While bands like the Sex Pistols, as well as the Ramones, The Clash, and Black Flag sold comparatively few albums, they inspired those bands who made it big, both punk and otherwise, bringing vital and much-needed raw energy into rock music, much as was once done by Elvis and The Beatles.

It's been correctly pointed out that they achieved far more fame, and inspired far more creativity and dissent in music than dozens of bands who claim to have fueled the fires of rebellion that is at the heart of rock music.

Congratulations to the Pistols - it's clearly one of the most deserved inductions the Hall of Fame has ever made!

Actually...there were two pistols albums the bolloks and what I consider to be one of the best albums of ALL time "the great rock and roll swindle". It was the soundtrack for the movie of the same name.

If you watch the Sundance Channel or IFC you can catch it from time to time around 1:30 in the morning.

The thing that classifies the "Great Rock and Roll Swindle" as a second album is this...the pistols wrote 5 new songs for the movie and rerecorded or "remastered" all of the bollocks material for the movie soundtrack. The thing that makes this album priceless is Anarchy in the UK with a symphony orchestra.

But thanks for letting me know that the sex pistols were getting in to RockHall. Good post and great blog...could you do a post that tells more about the similarities and differences between your variety of Catholicism and good old fashioned Roman variety.

the Melkite Church, along with the Roman Church, is one of about a dozen separate churches within the greater Catholic Church. while we are in communion with Rome, we have our own Patriarch, and for us, Benedict serves as more-or-less the "Chairman of the Board". He is our leader indirectly.

A good starting resource about what makes Melkites both unique and fully a part of the Catholic Church can be found at http://www.melkite.org/PRIMER.htm

Also, check out the links re Pope John Paul II via the Ukranian Catholic Church in Atlanta at http://www.motherofgodchurch.org/mog/, where he has written extensively on the Eastern Churches.

Outwardly, we appear Orthodox, and we do share many beliefs and traditions that are found in Orthodox churches.

But to understand our Church, a good way to start is to join us one Sunday (we also have a service Saturday evening) at Sacred Heart Church. We're there at 9am sharp every Sunday. We're also on the web at http://www.scmelkites.com/.

There's a lot to learn, but a good idea is to browse through some of my postings to get started understanding Eastern faith.

I agree that Swindle is pretty much a free-standing album with a lot of new material, and it's a pretty good one.

Because it was not intended to be the second Sex Pistols album, there are some who would argue it's not much different than the many other compliation albums that were put out in the years.

It's all a matter of how you look at it. Either way, it's some good darn music.

I agree with your point...wholeheartedly, but it was the closest thing that the world could legitimately claim to a second pistols album. Again...great post on the sex pistols...why don't you write something on another band that you like a WHOLE lot...THE CLASH!!!!

Thanks for the information about the information about your church. I will navigate my way around your blog to research my way around and will try to make my way to a mass. I have some orthodox icons at my house that you might want to see some time that are part of my art collection. My family got them after the fall of the wall in the 1980's.

It is important to note that icons are not simply works of art. People see them as simply unique images, but they fail to understand that they hold much deeper meanings.

While I'm sure I'll have plenty more to say over time over icons and other related subjects that are part of Eastern faith, a good start would be to hop down a ways and read my paper on the subject.

I'm going to disagree with you on the Sex Pistols. I never considered them very talented, and they burned out way too fast to be HOF material. While some members went on to other projects, the band itself doesn't stand up. Another point is Sid killing his girlfriend - not a HOF worthy act. The Ramones did more for punk, and The Clash had a better message. Gubba Gubba Hey!

While they may have stirred things up for a year, the HOF is for a lasting impact made over a career, which is why Guns and Roses and perhaps even Nirvana might not make it.

I'll agree with you on GnR. Axl Rose's appetite for dysfunction isn't much to stand on. Talk about the stupidest MoFo in rock and roll - anytime in the 90s that he wanted to dump some ego, and take his meds, the old GnR could have hit the road and sold and made mega-millions all over again.

I was glad that Velvet Revolver seemed to make a good go of it with their first album. With a lead singer who learned to overcome his demons, unlike Axl, it sounded a lot like GnR could have been, but regrettably never will.

I'm a huge STP fan, and I hope Scott Weiland can stay clean. As far as Axl, his biggest demon is himself. My favorite is the Behind the Music when Metallica and GnR toured. Back then , GnR was the biggest act in rock. Now , they're a footnote, and Metallica kept working and bypassed them like they were standing still.

I have a new post, take a look.
