S.C. Work Zones: 16 THOUSAND tickets in three months

The other day, I'm told my company's VP came from a meeting where he learned that sixteen thousand tickets had been written in South Carolina highway work zones over the last three months.

Yes, I said SIXTEEN THOUSAND tickets.

From that discussion, I was directed to put together this poster to circulate to our employees, as well as others in the construction arena, to help educate their workers and engage them in spreading the word about the need to slow down in work zone:

Slowing down might be a good idea ... for you, for other motorists, and for those working. I may be the office brainy-geeky HR and corporate communication person, but I've been out there on the side of the road and have my own personal close call stories.

Even worse, I've stood just feet away from a tarp that covered someone who was just moments before, a living, breathing human being - someone who was a friend, co-worker, father, and husband. It's something you'll never forget.

What can you, as a motorist, do to help? Here are three things easy things that you can do in a work zone:

  1. Slow down,
  2. Watch for slowed or stopped traffic ahead, and
  3. Keep an eye out for flaggers and construction vehicles in the roadway.

You can slow down for us, or you can stop for the blue lights. Either way, it's up to you ....

In any event, everyone make it a GREAT weekend out there!

So Earl, the extra 3,000 are hanging chads?

OK... I realize I'm risking the wrath here, but...

If there were 13,000 tickets in three months in work zones, why does the poster say 16,000?

Is this another instance of our state's out of control government growth, fuzzy math, or hyperinflation?

    just askin...

no doubt, this was definitely an act of sheer desperation to manipulate numbers in the closing days of the election campaigns.

i thought about blaming this one on jim rex and drew theodore, but i was told they might come beat me up after school if i kept picking on them ;)

but since you were the first to catch it josh, i could blame you ... hhhmmmm ... hhhhmmmm ... darnit, i can't think of how i can take it out on you!

actually, i was up late last night, and after spending four hours reading and researching for a grad school project, i wasn't paying as much attention as i should have.

i goofed, and ya'll called me on it, which i appreciate ya'll doing. but hey, it's a great way to see if my readers are paying attention.

    happy friday everyone!

Heading for Clemson. Homecoming game tomorrow night against Georgia Tech ESPN and Gameday ESPN at 10 AM. Hope there will be no work zones to slow me down and if there is I will have the traffic backing up behind me. People should respect construction areas.

Hey, Earl, I join you in calling for everyone to be safe in construction sites. The guys out there building the roads and bridges are the backbones of our state.

Slow down, folks and be safe. Three more minutes to your commute is worth being safe.
