Deputy William Howell - Thank you

Howell was well-known across the Lowcountry and well-respected by many in law enforcement. Such people are hard to find, and impossible to replace.
We understand that Deputy Howell had a promotion pending, and was waiting for such a time that his entire family could gather to receive it. Sheriff Williams intends to honor him and his family by ensuring that he will receive this promotion as his final act of duty. We couldn't think of a more deserving tribute.
Stories on the Charleston Post and Courier and Orangeburg Times and Democrat websites have discussion, including testimonials and thanks for Howell's service.
This will surely be a difficult time for many in Lowcountry law enforcement, who have seen a number of their own lost in the last year or so. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
Ironically, the piece of human crap who killed Deputy Howell, Derrick Buras, was killed shortly afterwards by his estranged wife. We consider this to be well-deserved justice for Mr. Buras.
No doubt Ms. Duras was under an unbelievable amount of duress that evening, after being the victim of an assault and watching a murder of a deputy. She probably believed that he would again be released on bond (he was already out on bond for another violent assault) and may return to kill her. Therefore, she likely saw killing Buras as the only way to save her own life.
We believe the justice system should be merciful towards Ms. Buras. If Derrick Buras is determined to have killed Deputy Howell, Ms. Buras should not be charged and be allowed an opportunity to get her life in order and make a fresh start. Especially considering the millions of dollars that would have gone towards trial and incarceration costs.
lots of people have hard lives, but don't go out and do what he'd done, both the night he killed howell and what he was out on bond for doing.
he came after her that night. he attacked her that night. i'd hardly consider that her harassing him.
earl called it right - he was a useless piece of crap. once the cororner is done with him, they ought to dump his body back where they found him and leave his ass for the vultures.
AYNOR SC
Such proof can be found in the comments by the Buras Cop Killer fan club. These people are more concerned about their dear friend than anyone who was on the receiving end of his many acts of violence.
Cooper, I was quite entertained by your amazingly low level of literacy. When confronted by such grotesque examples of miscenegation, one must attempt to find a degree of entertainment in it, lest the reality which is represented by such unenlightened discourse become even more evident than it already is.
In your shrill attempt at substantive discourse, I found several misspellings and punctuation errors. Really - which fast-food joint do you work the late shift at?
I am the author of this blog, whose name is in the title. Should it be verified that Mr. Buras was the one who killed the deputy, I would readily endorse the anonymous poster's recommendation that the body of your cop-killing punk buddy should be returned to the scene of the crime, and left to feed the vultures, flies and others who might find some use for an otherwise useless piece of human crap.
I sure as hell won't miss him.
KIDS.HOW COME THEY ARE NOT A PIECE OF CRAP. WHAT ABOUT THE ARMY THEY ARE KILLING. AND YOU DONT EVEN KNOW HIM SO WHY ARE YOU GOING TO MISS HIM.
I'm sure the many people he has assaulted but not killed won't miss him either.
Or are you going to insist none of that was his fault?
Lady, the last poster had the right idea - get off the computer and sign up for some adult literacy courses.
Nobody MADE him shoot that deputy, any more than they made him do any of the other crimes that he did.
Take some advice - go to adult ed, learn to spell, get a GED. You'll go much farther in life than you will talking and writing like an inbreed.
Maybe your prince shouldn't have killed a deputy in cold blood. Then we wouldn't care what kind of white trash he was, or what kind you are.
Number one, just because a person doesn't have the skill to properly speak their mind on paper or computers doesn"t or shouldn"t keep their reasoning out of the picture.
Also, from my own experiences thru a violent marriage in the 70.s-80's when we had no place to call or feel safe.Sadly some died.Thank God the system woke up and realized the statistics of what was happening to us and were ignored,I say until you've been there, nobody will know how she felt, why she reacted in the way she did. Or any of that. And she was clearly acting in self-defense.
So, to make it short, I think the whole situation is sad.And shame on you for taking time to find ways in words how to just keep on and on and not think for a second that alot of lives were changed as a result of and insult to blame anyone in such a tragic event.
Could you live with it, any of it, and keep sane, try it, then you won't be so quick to not only be arrigant, but even crewl voicing an opinion.Have you people even given the end result a sincere, sympathic ear to any of the people who not just endured it,but still live with it?
JUST A INNOCENT BYSTANDER READING SOME OF THIS>
AND COULDNT RESIST A CHANCE TO ADD WHAT I THOUGHT.
I DO KNOW ONE OF THE PEOPLE,BUT NOT ENOUGH TO SAY I REALLY KNOW THIS PERSON,BUT ENOUGH TO RESPOND TO THE TOPIC AT HAND.
