What can one say in a thousand posts?
As we look back at 1000 posts, we have to ask ourselves just what in the world does one do to fill up 1000 postings? Believe us, we never thought it was possible, except with a ton of mind-numbed drivel.
With the occasional worthy and profound commentary mixed in, just so y'all wouldn't think we were total morons.
So here's some of the damage that we've done in 1000 postings:
With the occasional worthy and profound commentary mixed in, just so y'all wouldn't think we were total morons.
So here's some of the damage that we've done in 1000 postings:
- We paid tribute to a fallen deputy and made a bunch of rednecks mad. This was just a few months after we called an attorney unqualified to be a judge, and made a bunch of rednecks mad then as well.
- We aired the bullying tactics of the GOP chairman in Berkeley County, and then watched him back off in total defeat.
- Another Graduation Day came and went, with Master's degree firmly in hand and thesis in publication, as well as the graduation party the next day.
- Our first legislative awards were given out to Reps Bill Cotty and Shannon Erickson, as well as Senators John Drummond and Shane Massey.
- Topics of faith and religion were in the background regularly, as we talked about obscure bits of Eastern Christianity such as Orthros, Vespers, Iconostasia, Pascha, Sunday of Orthodoxy, the Akathyst Hymn and the Paraklesis. All under the watchful eye of Father Titus Fulcher, our very own priest, armed with his own blog.
- We remembered some lost friends: Senator Bill Mescher, Mayor Malvin Mann, and Stan Spears Jr., the best of the hellraisers.
- It was on the road for hard rockin' metal concerts and we took you along for the ride, with Black Sabbath, Dokken, Judas Priest once ... and then again, LA Guns, Stephen Pearcy, Megadeth, Sebastian Bach, Queensryche once ... and then again, and WASP. If we didn't make the concerts, we talked about some great new and old metal albums.
- The resignation of former state Treasurer Thomas Ravenel opened the door to a short-lived candidacy for the office, at the urging of our readers, which ended with ethical allegations revolving around a t-shirt and Arby's roast beef combo.
- Despite those who think we've sold out to the education establishment, we've taken it on, challenging the now-gone PACT testing, as well as waste and duplication in higher education.
- We backed four candidate for delegate slots, and watched all four of them go to the national convention: Moye Graham, Mary McAbee, Mary Pearson, and LaDonna Ryggs. Then we followed them there, via reports and photos from the 2008 Republican National Convention.
- Work opened several highways: U.S. 521 in Manning, U.S. 321 in Orangeburg County, the I-77 interchange at Peach Road in Fairfield County, Main Street (U.S. 301/601) in Bamberg, S.C. 121 in Newberry, and U.S. 21 on St. Helena Island.
... and that's just a light sampling of some of what we've had to say in the first thousand postings. Who knows where the next thousand will take us?
But the most important thing of all isn't what we've had to say (Lord knows we've had plenty ...), but rather that you took the time to read and share some thoughts when you felt inspired. We've made a lot of new friends, confirming that wherever one may go in the Palmetto State, there are some darn good folks everyone.
As always, thanks for tuning in. It's been a hell of a ride, and we're honored to have you join us. In the words of Axl Rose, all of you are one in a million. That's what you are.

Congratulation to you,
Paul Adams
