A message to Senator Mike Rose

Maite Murphy is well-known and respected Summerville attorney and former 1st Judicial Circuit prosecutor. She has a strong work ethic and when in consideration for a 1st Circuit judicial seat, she was found qualified by the South Carolina Bar review panel. While she did not make it through the JMSC screening process, we believe her experience and enthusiasm for public service is too valuable to let go to waste.

We understand that Murphy may be seeking a magistrate's appointment in Dorchester County. If so, Murphy is well-qualified to serve and her appointment to such a post would do a great service for the people of Dorchester County.

Earl, do you realize that her husband has been our Sheriff's biggest thorn? The folks whom you decide to throw personal support would utterly amaze me if not for the realization that your advocacy is "for hire". Nonetheless, I wish for you and your family a Merry Christmas, my friend.

What a petty cheap shot. No wonder your name isn't on your post.

If you can connect me financially to either of the Murphys or their law firm, I'd love to see your proof. For that matter, show where I've had any financial relationship with anything or anyone I've discussed on this blog.

It's put up or shut up time.

Earl, sounds like another chickenshit. You must have backed someone who beat his/her candidate, so this is how they take it out on you - anonymous character swipes.

If that's the best they can do, then laugh away and come on over for a beer before the end of the year.

Earl, you've done a lot of good in your community and through this blog, and if anyone has seen your house and your old POS car, they'll know that you're not doing it for the money.

Earl, what's your rate card? If you're selling power, it helps if you can show prospective clients what you can do, and for how much?

If you're gonna sell out, then you've gotta learn how to SELL.

Earl, I'll agree. Your accuser is one bitter little fucktard.

Maite has always been a unselfish, giving person. She has dedicated herself to the community of Dorchester County by serving as a prosecutor for Dorchester County under Robby Robbins, and developing a practice devoted to protecting the rights of abused children. She knows what the 'deal is'.
Whether Earl is paid or not is not relevant in regards to Ms. Murphy. She is the true deal. Anyone would be proud to have her on the bench or anywhere for that matter.
Did anyone think that perhaps the sheriff needed a thorn? Or that Ms. Murphy had such power over her husband?
Focus on what matters...persons on the bench that are legally trained and have compassion!

2332 - i couldn't agree more. she has the background to be a competent jurist and the conservative law-and-order attitude to make sure that the court fulfills it's obligation to keep the peace and dispense justice.

    Earl,

Do you really think Rose is going to listen to who you support? The team he has around him is very good and very loyal. Two things to Rose you have not shown in the past. Think about that before you use your blog to try to influnce a person who isnt influnced by you to try to make yourself look important in Dorchester County.
  10. Earl Capps 27/12/08 18:40
Swamp Fox - like you, I've got freedom of speech. Unlike you, I've got the cojones to put my name with my words.

If you knew Summerville as well as you do, then you would know who I supported for the Senate in the fall contest. The Senator knows who I supported.

Maybe I have some degree of influence, maybe I don't. That would depend upon who you ask in this town. As to importance - maybe that matters to you, but since you didn't put your name next to your words, you're probably not very important.

    Have a nice day, loser.

Justice is blind. That means should not be influenced by political parties. Sen. Rose is so upstanding and intelligent that he has formed a committee to help him select the best people to seat the magistrates.
Quit picking on Earl. He too, is fine and upstanding. Rock on, Earl!!!
  12. Earl Capps 27/12/08 19:24
To the last poster - Senator Rose has asked for a chance, and I'm giving him that. This revolving door of Senators has hurt this district, as well as the state as a whole.

Senator Rose has the experience to succeed - it's just a question of how far he will go to reach out and bring on board enough of his opposition to build an unbeatable coalition for a likely 2012 race.

I don't know who is on his review committee, but it's encouraging to see him accepting outside inputs on these offices, as well as committeed to ending the carryover tradition.

Earl, you should know by now that much of the Summerville political scene is populated by kooks of some stripe or another.

I looked back at a posting comment that I'm sure ol' Swamp Fox overlooked:

Why did you leave out the Senate race in your backyard? The Mike Rose - Bill Collins race the most interesting and closest watched because even if Bill gets 40 percent he changes the political landscape. It's understandable though that you left it out since you are just part of the Republican establishment who is holding their nose and backing Rose.

    To which you responded:

Anon, you really shouldn't jump to conclusions unless you know who and what you're talking about.

The last time I looked, 40 percent ain't even close, which is about what I'd expect Collins to get. Since nobody expects Collins to win, it doesn't count as a race worth watching.

Why don't you take your Democratic Party loyalties and/or your hate trip for Mike Rose, and go sling mud at the candidate instead of wasting your time with a blogger who has more readers in Columbia than Summerville?

    Mr. Capps,

It was clear to me at the Lowcountry Republican Breakfast, prior to the primary, at Kelly's BBQ in Summerville that you not only supported Randy Scott but mocked Senator Rose by laughing at him when he got up to make his speech. You also bowed your head as if he were some kind of an embarrassment and should just go away. I don't know you and dont wish to post this to insult you in anyway. But it was obvious that you did not initially support Mike Rose for Senator. I am not sure if that was because Randy Scott was the incumbent or if it was because you considered Mike Rose to be a nuisance. Either way it would be nice if you just came out with the truth about why you changed your mind in the fall? Was it because you felt Senator Rose was the best candidate or because the other guy you had supported lost in the primary?

    Thanks
  15. Earl Capps 28/12/08 00:35
Nappal - you could at least thank us for the effort it takes to moderate these events. That was the most contentious event I've ever moderated. At one point, I felt like Scott was about five seconds away from jumping at Rose - with me right in the middle of it.

You say I supported Randy Scott - prove it. You'll be looking a long time to find such proof.

In fact, if you took a moment to search for the key words "Mike Rose" on my blog, you would find that I expressed my position very clearly on May 7 ("Senate Upsets in the Making" again on June 10 ("Primary in the Blogland").

... now where in those comments do you get any indication that I ever supported Randy Scott?

I'll be awaiting your answer. Maybe while you're at it, you can tell me why all of my critics don't have the balls to put their real names with their comments?
  16. Robby Robbins 28/12/08 13:16
    Earl,
I could not agree with you more. Maite' is one of the finest prosecutors I have worked with and she would make an excellent Magistrate!
  17. pretwiv 28/12/08 17:57
    Mr. Capps,

I hate to be the one to point this out but Senator Scott was arrested for DUI in April before your May 7th Blog. If you didnt change your mind after that incident then you were the only one. That's a weak validation.

    Thanks
  18. clarendon mg 28/12/08 18:33
Earl who's corn flakes did you pee in man.
  19. Earl Capps 28/12/08 23:54
Moye - there are a lot of kooks in Summerville. Most of whom like to take personal cheap shots, carry hate trips for years, if not decades, and think they have the right to put the infidels on trial for the slightest offense.

I have offended them greatly, it seems, and they think they can make my blog their kangaroo court. They threw their pissy whiny accusations, I countered with hard facts, and they can't stand it.

What they dislike most about me is that I don't hate like them, don't carry grudges, and know when to quit beating a dead horse.

I'm moving on. If any of them want to post further comments, I'm not approving them. The dead horse is now buried.
