2009 GOP convo recap, Part 2: Ken Ard campaign drop-in
Immediately following the convention was a reception hosted by Ken Ard, a recently-announced GOP candidate for Lt. Governor. The place was packed with well-wishers, supporters, and curious Republicans who crossed the street from the convention to meet the candidate and learn a little bit more about him.We were impressed with the turnout and certainly appreciative for the hospitality shown by Ard and his supporters.
As an aside, we've already heard criticisms that Ard, who currently sits on Florence County Council, would be handicapped in his bid by a lack of legislative experience. To those people, it's worth noting that Bob Peeler, who served in the office from 1995-2002, was elected having held no higher elected office than the Cherokee County School Board. In spite of that, Peeler scored a stunning come-from-behind victory and went on to win re-election handily against a comeback bid by former Lt. Governor (and former legislator) Nick Theodore four years later.
We met Ard and found him likable and thoughtful. He'll make a welcome addition to the field of GOP candidates for this office.

Ard has plenty of governmental experience, and so did Peeler. Not to mention Peeler's brother was one of the senior GOP Senators when Bob took office. That's how Peeler was effective, in spite of claiming to be an "outsider".
Ard's experience, even if not in Columbia, means he has a clue about what that job is about, and what it's not about.
2) Can preside over the senate at any time and rule legislation out of order, such as the 2 billion in tax increases our current LG has ruled out of order
3) Can make what they want out of the office, such as working to bring business to SC as has been the case with our current LG as late as last week
By that logic why would we even have a Vice President either?
My whole point is, we can sit all day and talk about the issues, but we have to elect a candidate that actually knows how to solve them and has a record of solving them. These are serious times.
