Tim Scott to jump into First Congressional District race?

Not even a month after Henry Brown's decision not to seek re-election and the race for the Republican nomination for the First Congressional District seat (all but a guarantee of election in November) bears little resemblance to what it was two months ago.

The entry of Paul Thurmond into the race has generated lots of attention, and speculation is growing about the possibility of North Charleston State Representative Tim Scott switching from the Lt. Governor's race to the Congressional race.

We've also become aware of Scott cancelling a couple of candidates' forums outside of the First District, another sign that he may be about to switch races.

All our sources say he's all but in the race, with an announcement to be made as early as next week.

Stay tuned.

Tim's this Rhino's first choice among the hats not in the ring. OTOH, this Rhino's sources say that fundraising remains fixed on a Lt Gov race.

Truly one of the most honest and sincere people I have ever met. I have known him since he was a youngster and saw that in him way back then. I have been one that unabashedly wanted Tim in the race for Congress...just disappointed that he didn't live in my district (Sixth) because he could beat Jim C.

Nancy, if he did, given the nature of the Sixth, it would be a waste for him to run and hit the proverbial brick wall. However, his chances of winning the First aren't bad. As such, Tim would be an interesting contrast to Clyburn on the congressional delegation, not to mention how national media would cover those two. New vision versus good ol' boy pork barrel politics.

I would like for the dude to get into the Congressional Race.

Later source check offers that backers seem more thrilled with a winnable Congressional bid than the quagmire of Lt. Gov, playing second fiddle to McConnell.

Maybe Robert Barber could run for Tim's house seat, if the Charleston gerrymander isn't extinct as a species... I doubt that Eliott Summey has the gumption to follow those footsteps (much less the electability).
