Addressing the Haley rumors
Yesterday afternoon, FITSNews, always one to spot a good story in the making, followed up on a blog posting which discussed bloggers, sex and gubernatorial candidates.
Somehow, amazingly, that trail led to me.
I have been asked by a lot of people to comment on these rumors over the last 48 hours, and have refused to comment on the matter. The most I've commented was in response to questions from FITS:
FITS just received the following text from Earl Capps in response to rumors about him and S.C. Rep. Nikki Haley. “I’m not going to admit or deny that one,” Capps said. Asked specifically if he had ever been romantically involved with Haley, Capps said “I am not going to address those allegations at this time until I figure out what someone has gotten a hold of. That is my official position.”
In the five years which I have run the Blogland, I have made it a point to avoid discussing relationships (or lack thereof). Politics and personal lives are not always the best things to mix, and I don't want to complicate anyone's life by dragging them into the spotlight which often shines upon us politicos. They, along with their friends and families, don't ask for the attention and I am very cautious not to do that to them.
While this policy usually works pretty well, sometimes people start asking questions and poking around. In those situations, it can be embarassing and even frustrating - as it has been in the last 48 hours.
So I apologize to anyone whose lives have been complicated by this. Whatever happened, it wasn't my intent to do so.
With regards to these allegations, I will present the following to the readers of the Blogland:
Over the last four years, I met with Nikki Haley on several occasions to discuss legislative issues. These have included a veteran's memorial marker in the Town of Bamberg, SC DSS treatment of a co-worker of mine, and her roll call voting initiatives. During those meetings, which were held in public places, she was cordial and often helpful.
I have not discussed my relationships on the blog, nor will I discuss personal allegations regarding any South Carolina politico on this blog, including myself. That rule is not up for negotiation. Whether you believe the allegations or not, that's up to you. In cases like these, the truth is a hard thing to prove, so I'm going to put the burden of proof upon those who would accuse me.
The Blogland is not a venue for personal issues, so this is all the answer you're getting. If you don't like it, too bad.

These poor bloggers sitting in their Mama's trailers can only fantasize.
Keep up this Haley slander sport and I assure you she will go up by another 10 points in polls.
Clearly the standard of "Southerner Gentleman" is now in the gutter as is his politics. You guys are a shame and a disgrace to the very name of human being.
