Ed Clements campaign disclosures: Mo' problems, no money

Looks like Ed Clements, the Democratic 12th Circuit Solicitor, is having all sorts of problems with his campaign finance reports.

On Monday, we talked about how he's listing his office as his campaign address on his disclosure reports, but like the TV commericals likes to say: "But wait! There's more!"

Not only did we find his campaign finance reports for 2010 filed with 2007 reports, but we found another big problem with his finance reports - his opponent, former federal prosecutor Rose Mary Parham, is outright smoking him in the money race in the race.

Which might explain why those reports were uploaded to where nobody could find them. As many a veteran trial lawyer will tell you, hide the facts you don't want uncovered and hope nobody asks questions.

But in the Blogland, we LOVE to ask questions.

Rosemary Parham is working her tail off to raise money and is leaving Clements behind.  On the July 10th disclosure, Parham had raised $46,847.13 in donations, with $24,792.49 cash on hand. By contrast, Clements had raised $26,010.81 in donations, with $13,578.55 left in the bank.

Clements' supporters may try to point out that our figure leaves out the $17,800 loan his campaign is carrying, but we didn't overlook that.  When a long-time solicitor is getting beat two-to-one both in donations and cash on hand, and has to start borrowing money well before the campaign begins to heat up (and still has less cash on hand and lags behind his challenger in total income), it's never a good sign for the incumbent.

But it's a good sign that this is likely to be THE hottest race in the Pee Dee this fall, as well as that Parham's waging a stone-cold serious challenge to Clements.

You don't have to run if you use your office to run from which is obviously what Ed is doing. This guy is a joke and so is the current solicitor's office. Everyone in South Carolina knows it and that is why he has No money.

Ole Ed puts them in jail...How about get that quote from a law enforcement official rather than a staffer of clements and it might have some merit! You gave your self away Annon! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

LETS GET THIS STRAIGHT NOW...IT ISN'T TACKY FOR A PERSON TO USE THEIR POSITION, ELECTED OFFICE, EMPLOYEES, COUNTY VEHICLE, SOLICITORS OFFICE ADDRESS (ALL PAID FOR BY THE TAX PAYERS)TO GET THEMSELVES ELECTED. BUT IT IS TACKY FOR PERSON TO GO TO COURT WHERE THEY WERE CALLED FOR JURY DUTY AND WHEN ASKED WHAT DO YOU DO FOR A LIVING...AND ANSWER THE QUESTION LEGITIMATELY SO AS TO MAKE SURE THERE IS NO CONFLICT OF INTEREST IS TACKY. WOW. OKAY SO TO SUM THINGS UP... IT IS NOW TACKY TO TELL THE TRUTH AND REVEAL ANY CONFLICT OF INTEREST THAT MAY EXIST. I GOTTA GO REVIEW MY MISS EMILY POST. YOU ARE AS CLUELESS ABOUT ETHICS AS ED CLEMENTS IS!

He needs to quit playing politics with his job and face his Rose Mary Parham in debates.
