Dirty Harry and the Bootleg Merchandise

Last week, Secretary of State Mark "Dirty Harry" Hammond's office did a sting at the Metro Flea Market on Highway 1 in West Columbia, snagging three people selling just under $200 grand worth of counterfeit merchandise:

The Secretary of State’s Office partnered with the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department to conduct a sting in West Columbia on December 1, 2010, that resulted in the confiscation of nearly $188,000 in pirated DVDs and CDs and counterfeit merchandise.

What we're trying to figure out is how many items they seized. It had to be a lot.

But it looks like two of the three were given fair warning previously about this, thus they can't complain about Hammond dropping the proverbial axe on them. Maybe they just felt lucky:

James Ben Woodring of 15 Ivanhole Circle, Wellford, and Billy Joe Woodring of 37 Totteridge Drive, Spartanburg, were charged with illegal distribution of recordings. James Woodring had received a warning from Anderson County law enforcement in November 2009, for the distribution of recordings at the Anderson Jockey Lot Flea Market. The Woodring brothers may each face fines up to $250,000 and/or five years in prison for this charge.

Hassan Y. Elzein of 112 Russell Road, Apt. 202, Cayce, was charged with the illegal distribution of counterfeit goods. Elzein received previous warnings from law enforcement, and now may face fines up to $20,000 and/or five years in prison for this most recent charge of distribution of counterfeit merchandise. Goods seized included coats, handbags, hats, jeans, jerseys, shirts, shoes and sweat suits. The confiscated products bore the logos of many designer names: Air Jordan, baby phat, Blac Label, Burberry, Chanel, Coach, COOGI, Dolce & Gabbana, Ed Hardy, Gucci, Jimmy Choo, Louis Vuitton, Major League Baseball, NCAA, Nike, Ralph Lauren, The North Face, Timberland, and True Religion.
