Guest Op-Ed: Charlie Lybrand supports Sarah Palin
In recent months, the Blogland has begun accepting guest op-ed submissions for publication, allowing our readers to have their moment in the spotlight and share their news, opinions, and attitudes with our readers.
If you've got something to say, send it. We don't promise it will get published, but if it's well-written and has the potential to stir discussion, it might just get published.
Today's guest op-ed comes from long-time Charleston politico Charlie Lybrand. He has served as Charleston County's Register of Deeds since 1994, and served on Charleston County Council for several years before that.

Selecting Sarah Palin as his running mate in 2010 may be the most important thing John McCain has done for his country since serving so honorably in the Navy and then as a POW in Vietnam. The Keating Four, or the McCain Fiendgold Bill or his insistence on securing Amnesty for all of this country’s illegals certainly aren’t highlights in his career. But giving us Sarah Palin, may make up for these missteps.
As I sat and watched Governor Palin deliver her Vice Presidential acceptance speech that evening, all I could think of was: this is the future of the Republican Party and I welcome it with open arms. At that moment in time, Sarah Palin was not the most articulate or most dynamic speaker I’d ever heard. But she was honest, clear eyed and brought with her an electricity I hadn’t felt in years. It was so refreshing to hear her talk about our County like she was a young child with a new toy. Not like our current first Lady who said she had never been proud of her country until it voted for her husband. Ms. Palin’s pride showed through when she spoke of her husband, their family and her faith in Christ. Not in a bragging or brash sort of way but in a way that made me proud as well.
You could tell that her mom and dad were critical in her upbringing. You could also tell that when things needed to get done at home or in the local school district, she rolled up her sleeves and did it. She didn’t wait for someone else to do it. In fact, her first elected position was to the local school board. To me, the school board is one of the most difficult jobs in elected office. After the school board experience, she ran for Governor and was Elected. That was no small hill to climb either, but she did it.
Now comes John McCain’s Presidential campaign staff, to Wallsilla Alaska to ask this little known Alaska Governor to be his running mate. Can you imagine what that must have been like to her and her family? Remember now, she didn’t seek him out, he sought her. And like great Americans before her, she said yes. Everyone made fun of her, the press, the Democrats and a lot of Republicans who wanted someone with more Gravatai. I remember thinking, if my instincts are right, this woman will be A Somebody real soon.
I had no idea how soon, Sarah Palin would become a household name. Her freshness and good looks continue to keep the Sarah Palin haters off balance. She likes to hunt, fish, and go camping and do all the things us guys hope we might find in the perfect woman when we choose a mate. She can talk politics and sports without having to be coached. She’s pro-life, loves her children like they are the only ones in the world. She can filet a Halibut shoot a Moose and cook’m up for dinner. Did I mention she looks just as good in chest high waders as she does in her Sunday go to meeting clothes.
She’s written two best selling books and she is not afraid to endorse candidates who may or may not win. In fact, my State’s Governor Elect, Niki Haley would most certainly have been just one more also-ran, had Sarah Palin not endorsed her at exactly the right time in the campaign. I saw my guy Henry McMaster go from the top of the pile to 20 points down in one day after the Palin endorsement. Now that’s power.
I knew right then the political strength this woman had. All the media critics except for Fox news love to make fun of her, yet she keeps having to get bigger trucks to take all the money she is making to the bank. Isn’t America great!!! She is not afraid to speak her mind or take on a cause. She recognized early on how important the Tea Party was and embraced the movement as well as becoming its titular head.
The political elitist still like to make fun of her but as the days go by, I get the feeling that they are seeing the 2008 Presidential Campaign played out all over again. Except this time, it’s not Barack Hussain Obama who is in the drivers seat.
Sarah Palin is a red blooded American from the tip of her toes to the top of her head and unabashedly proud of it. That’s one of the main reasons I like her so much.
I remember what it was like when Ronald Reagan was sworn in to Office. Americans knew the long painful haul of the Carter Administration was finally over. Our hostages were coming home and we could finally get our chins off of our chest. If my intuitions are still in tact, I think the most America will feel the same way in 2012. Except this time the hostages that are being held are us and it’s our country who will be set free.
I really hope’s she runs. I can just feel the excitement she will bring to the campaign. All these liberal pundits will be out there with their p-shooters while Mama Grizzly will be taking aim at the biggest prize of all, the White House. The metaphors keep coming but I think I will just stay with Michael Jordan air walking all the way to the net and then swosh. As you can tell, I ‘m pretty jacked up about it.
Run Sarah Run! My granddaughter’s name is Sarah too. Maybe that’s one of the reasons I’m excited about it. I can say to my granddaughter, Ms. Sarah Palin may be the first Woman President with the name Sarah, but you’re going to be the next.

NO..WAY!
He'd much rather face Romney or Huckabee.
Sarah has the potential to be a Movement.
The GOP elite, the Dems, and the media hit Sarah Palin everyday. And everyday, she stands up, and stands taller and louder than anybody else against this big government progressivism. Some people tell us how they’ll lead. Sarah shows us.
