Harpootlian to attack Wheel of Fortune?
Sources have informed the Blogland that newly-elected S.C. Democratic Party Chair Dick Harpootlian has begun formulating plans for a high profile political attack against the Wheel of Fortune, well-known for starring Vanna White, a Horry County native.
Reportedly the Dark Lord of Democratic politics will his begin by going after a well-known American institution - the Wheel of Fortune game show - over it's restrictive policies, which force contestants to buy letters.
We've been told that his equity plan will demand the game show allow contestants to simply rent the letters for the day, using his long-time approach to South Carolina politics, where Harpootlian is well known for saying: “I don’t want to buy the black vote. I just want to rent it for a day.”
The details of the plan are sure to leak out. When they do, we'll keep you posted.
I live in the upper PeeDee, Chesterfield County, and I get my local news from Florence/Myrtle Beach and Charlotte on TWC. So we don't get too much of the statewide political shenanigans cooked up in the Columbia Area. Thank God, I have only been back in SC for less than ten years after a forty year absence.
I have actually seen Mr. Harpootlian more on Fox News than all the local news combined. My first impression of him was "what an asshat." Reminds me of a bantam rooster running around informing everyone that when he crows every morning, the Sun comes up.
He had this position from 1998 to 2003. And, as his supporters will point out, he steered the Party to a victory over an incumbent Republican governor in 1998. They like to end the tale hanging at that high point for Harpootlian. Failing to mention that he engineered the defeat of the sitting Democrat governor in 2002.
Haley may not be too hard to pick off in 2014, the strength of her support does not seem real solid at this point.
Who knows, maybe the Democrats will nominate Al Greene for governor in 2014, and really mean it. The way Democrat party demographics are evolving, Harpootlian may not get the option to "rent" or "buy" the black vote. They will "own" Harpootlian and the Democrat party.
