Bachman & Santorum: Yes to censorshop, No to states rights

We always thought that conservatives were supposed to support the Constitution, Bill of Rights and States' rights.

Which doesn't explain why Presidential candidate Michele Bachmann signed a pledge to ban porn and allow the federal government to impose its view of marriage upon each state.

Nor does it explain why Rick Santorum, fellow Presidential candidate and defeated Senator, signed the same pledge.

The Blogland isn't big on talking about social issues, nor is porn run on this website, but that's because of a personal choice. You might hate porn, or maybe you love it, but either way, it's your choice - and it's none of our business.

We can't help but be concerned when candidates want to pander to voters by promising to ban porn, which employs consenting adults and is purchased and viewed by other consenting adults and is protected free speech.

Imposing federal standards on what marriage would be a God-send to those on both sides of the issue. Gay marriage could be outlawed nationwide and then legalized in cycles - and the right of states to decide issues such as the who's and how's of marriage would be utterly thrown out the door as social conservatives compromise state's rights towards their political agendas.

How these two reconcile that position with arguing that the federal government overruns states is beyond us.

Having been in the political arena for over twenty years, we've learned that too many of those who talk a big game on social issues turn out to be hypocrites pandering for votes. Don't tell us how to live our lives and we won't tell you how to live yours.

It's a little hard for either of these two to aspire to take an oath to uphold the Constitution when they really don't mean it.
